Review: The Infinite Sea

The Infinite Sea The Infinite Sea by Rick Yancey
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

This second in the 5th Wave trilogy follows Ben, Cassie, Ringer and Evan and their assorted survivors as they try to live and figure out WHY.

I was intrigued enough by the first novel to continue onto the second. I, too, want to know why an alien race would weed out the strong other than to inhabit them. There are many questions, and few answers in this second installment. One bombshell made me go "huh." The rest of the novel was doused in over-used metaphors, a lack of distinct character voices despite alternating focalizers, and a lot of existential questions that were again suffused with so much metaphor that I am surprised anyone can garner any meaning from the words.

I will, however, read the third, because I care enough about Cassie to know how it all turns out.
