Review: Three Dark Crowns

Three Dark Crowns Three Dark Crowns by Kendare Blake
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Um, wow!

I was not expecting to LOVE this book so much!

A witchy-like island isolated through a magic mist from the mainland has three queens. Each queen is destined to be a poisoner, a naturalist or an elemental all with gifts within those divisions. But--only one of the triplets can be queen. The other 2 must die by the hand of the strongest queen.

Captivating characters with an omniscient narrator forces the reader to root for not one specific queen, but for all three. I truly wasn't expecting the ending and cannot wait for the next book to answer the lingering questions.

My only quibble is with the performance of the voice actor as I listened to this title. The formal speech of the islanders would have been fine if the reader wasn't so stilted in her performance. You can talk without using contractions and not sound like a fool.
