Goodnight Already! by Jory John
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
Bear really wants to sleep. But duck wants to play.
Bright and colorful, full of dialogue and amusing illustrations, this book makes for an excellent read aloud. I quibble with the pacing at the end building up to the punch line, and wish there was another spread or two provide a better impact on the final page.
The narrative itself feels very derivative of Mo Willems's signature style in the Gerald and Piggie books and Duck has a close resemblance Doreen Cronin's duck books. Granted, there are only so many ways to draw a duck, but it stuck with me. So while this is an amusing read, it does not feel original.
Read in storytime--they will love it.
