Review: Tiptoe Tapirs

Tiptoe Tapirs Tiptoe Tapirs by Hanmin Kim
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Tapirs tiptoe quietly through the jungle, unnoticed. Other animals soon learn that quiet is better in the jungle, especially when hunters are around.

This Korean translation demonstrates beautiful watercolor, pen & ink artwork with unusual and vibrant patterns. The English translation is poetic and rhythmic in such a way that lulls the reader into a sense of peace and security.

The effectiveness of the "Bang! Bang! Bang!" spread is genius in its implication without being overly done, overly violent or unrealistic.

It is clear that this is not a Western picturebook; it is beautiful and artistic with a distinctly Eastern treatment of the topic, the style and the language.

A beautiful book. Just not for storytime.
