All Rise for the Honorable Perry T. Cook by Leslie Connor
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Such an interesting and original premise for a novel--Perry is raised his mother with the assistance from his foster guardian inside a prison. Only when the country DA discovers this is there a wrench in the arrangement.
Told in dual narrative with Perry and his mother, this book takes a look at the stigma surrounding correctional facilities and raises awareness to the needs--emotional and psychological--of inmates. While this situation may not be wholly realistic, it is an excellent use of "what if" with a realistic cast of characters. this book explores love, trust and friendship in such a charming way that you really cannot put this book down.
